Item Management

Creating Items

Items can include the following information:

Field Type Required Description
Name Text Yes Item name/title
Description Text No Detailed description
Manufacturer Text No Brand or maker
Barcode Text No UPC, EAN, or custom code
Price Number No Purchase price
Buy Date Date No When purchased
Quantity Number No How many (default: 1)
Min Quantity Number No Low stock threshold
Category Select No Organizational category
Location Select No Storage location

Editing Items

  1. Navigate to the item detail page
  2. Click Edit
  3. Modify any fields
  4. Click Save

Deleting Items

Permanent Action

Deleting an item is permanent and cannot be undone.

  1. Navigate to the item detail page
  2. Click Delete
  3. Confirm the deletion

Categories

Color Coding

Each category has a color that appears as a badge on items:

  • Helps visually identify item types at a glance
  • Colors are customizable
  • Choose from a preset palette or enter custom hex colors

Managing Categories

  • Create - Add new categories with name and color
  • Edit - Change category name or color
  • Delete - Remove category (items will be uncategorized)

Locations

Organizing by Location

Locations help you find items physically:

  • Create hierarchical locations (e.g., "Garage > Shelf A")
  • Add descriptions for additional context
  • View all items in a location

Location Details

Field Description
Name Location identifier (unique)
Description Additional details about the location

QR Codes

Generating QR Codes

Each item can have a QR code generated:

  1. Open item detail page
  2. Click QR Code button
  3. View, download, or print the QR code

Using QR Codes

  • Print and attach to physical items or shelves
  • Scan with any QR code reader
  • Links directly to the item detail page

Barcode Scanning

Camera Scanning

Use your device's camera to scan barcodes:

  1. Click Scan button on the items page
  2. Allow camera access
  3. Point camera at barcode
  4. System automatically detects and searches

  • EAN-8
  • EAN-13
  • Code 39
  • Code 128
  • QR Code

Image Uploads

Adding Images

Items can have multiple images:

  1. Edit an item
  2. Click Add Image or drag & drop
  3. Images are uploaded automatically

Supported Formats

  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)
  • PNG (.png)
  • GIF (.gif)
  • WebP (.webp)

File Size

Default maximum: 5MB per image (configurable)

Low Stock Alerts

Setting Up Alerts

  1. Set Min Quantity on an item
  2. When quantity drops to or below this value, it appears in alerts

Viewing Alerts

  • Dashboard shows low stock items count
  • Click to see all low stock items
  • Filter items list by low stock status

Export & Import

Exporting Data

Export your inventory for backup or analysis:

  • Complete data with relationships
  • Best for backups
  • Can be re-imported
  • Spreadsheet compatible
  • Good for analysis
  • Easy to open in Excel/Sheets

Importing Data

Restore from a previous export:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click Import
  3. Select your JSON or CSV file
  4. Review import summary
  5. Confirm import

Theme Support

Dark Mode

  • Default theme
  • Easy on the eyes
  • Perfect for low-light environments

Light Mode

  • Bright, clean appearance
  • Better for bright environments
  • Toggle in settings or navigation

Search & Filter

Search across all item fields:

  • Name
  • Description
  • Manufacturer
  • Barcode

Filters

Narrow down results:

  • By category
  • By location
  • Low stock only

Sorting

Sort items by:

  • Name
  • Price
  • Quantity
  • Date added
  • Date modified
